Bunny Business

After learning facts about rabbits all week we completed a graphic organizer answering the following questions: 1. What kind of rabbit are you? 2. What do you look like?  3. Where do you live? 4. What is your home like? 5. What do you like to eat? 6. Where do you get your food? 7. What do you do during the day? 8. How do you spend your nights? 9. What is the best thing about being a bunny?  The students answered each of these questions on the graphic organizer in complete sentences and then wrote the sentences into a story about “Being A Bunny”.  They did a great job!  They then created their rabbit and put their writing on the bodies of their rabbits. Our “Bunny Business” is hanging in the hallway for you to check out if you are at VPS!

The Tale of Peter Rabbit

We read the stories The Tale of Peter Rabbit and The Tale of Benjamin Bunny this week to go with our theme on rabbits. We discussed real rabbit facts and fantasy rabbit stories.  We did a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the two stories.  We then made these cute Peter Rabbits.

After we made our rabbits and did a character comparison of Peter Rabbit and Mr. McGregor we did an activity to sequence the story events.  Then they wrote stories called The Tale of _______ Rabbit.  They got to name their characters and write details of what they were doing in each of the pictures.  They did a great job of adding details and the feelings of the characters.  They will be bringing these stories home to share with you soon!

Lucky Kids At VPS!

There are some awesome writing samples hanging in our hallway of  Lucky Kids at VPS!  They wrote about why they are lucky to go to VPS and why they are so lucky to have such wonderful families.  They did a great job and I am a LUCKY teacher to work with such neat kids!  I am very proud of their writing efforts.  They will bring them home soon to share with you!

Lucky Charms

Our class joined up with the other classes in our hallway to do an online program where we graphed and tallied the number of marshmallow shapes in a box of Lucky Charms.  We were looking to see if there were more four leaf clovers than the other shapes.  Our class had 102 four leaf clovers and that shape was the most for our class.  We counted 587 shapes in our box of Lucky Charms.  Our five classes tallied 2605 marshmallow shapes in all and the four leaf clovers won by 2!  It was a fun activity to do.  We will check when we get back from Spring Break to see if the online project showed that the four leaf clover wins overall with all the classes that participated in the project around the United States.

Tanganyika Assembly

We had a special treat when Tanganyika came out to our school and brought some of their animals.  We got to see a snake, a ferret, an armadillo, a lizard, a gecko, and a hedgehog.  The ladies that came to school to share the animals gave a lot of information about them and the kids loved hearing the stories about each of the animals.  I know the kids would love to visit Tanganyika! Here are a few pictures of the animals that we got to see.Tanganika Assembly 012 Tanganika Assembly 002 Tanganika Assembly 003 Tanganika Assembly 005 Tanganika Assembly 006 Tanganika Assembly 007  Tanganika Assembly 010 Tanganika Assembly 011 Tanganika Assembly 009
