It was amazing how fast our day went. With 3 recesses, a lunch room meeting, lunch, PE, and library it went by so quickly! We also spent a lot of our time learning about our classroom rules. We played a “Smile Face” game to learn about our classroom and where things belong and how to take care of it. Our special snack was making smile faces on graham crackers and frosting with chocolate chips.
We read a story called First Grade Stinks! They got a kick out of the title of this book. It was about a little girl that compared kindergarten to her first day in first grade. Things were quite different and she was not sure she was going to like first grade. At the end she said “First Grade is GREAT!!” That is what I hope the kids came home feeling at the end of their first day in our classroom. Here are some pictures of the kids drawing pictures of themselves on their first day.
We spent some time watching a Power Point on playground safety and learning about the new equipment on our playground before we got to go out and play. We also discussed our classroom rules after we read the story Never Spit on Your Shoes by Dennis Cazet. It was about a dog named Arnie that just came home from his first day of school. He shared with his mom about how hard it was to sit in a desk all day and follow classroom rules. I hope they shared their Arnie puppet they made after we read the story and shared our classroom rules with you.
Here are some great smiles on the first day of first grade! What a great group of kids!!!
It is going to be a fun year!! Thanks for sharing your child with me each day!!
