Emporia State Softball Pen Pals

This year our class has been writing letters to the Emporia State Softball team.  My oldest daughter Karley is a freshman on the team and her coach suggested that they do a community service project by writing to our class. They wrote us a letter to introduce themselves and asked the kids questions about themselves. We used this as a writing activity to answer the questions and write back to them. They sent us Christmas cards and we made Valentine cards for them and we exchanged Easter cards.  The team was coming to Wichita to play against Newman University and they made a surprise stop by VPS!  The kids were so excited to meet their pen pal in person and got to play on the playground at recess with them before the team headed off for their games.  They brought us an autographed picture and Easter eggs and lots of candy!  It was a really special moment getting to meet them. The softball girls were a big hit at recess and were like celebrities at our school!
