We started November with a week of Scarecrows and finished up with an Ice Cream Day to go along with our story in our reader this week. They couldn’t have been happier on Friday when they got to make ice cream!!
We worked in a lot on nouns, verbs, and adjectives this week with our scarecrows. They enjoyed describing their scarecrows and doing the sentence wheel and writing their super sentences. We brainstormed as many adjectives as we could to describe the scarecrows. We read these books: The Shy Scarecrow, The Shy Scarecrow Goes to School, The Littlest Scarecrow, and The Lazy Scarecrow to get them thinking about adjectives. We also did a sentence wheel using different adjectives to tell about the scarecrow using what and where sentence clues.
Ice Cream Fun!!
Our story in our reader was Miss Jill’s Ice Cream Shop so we just had to have an ice cream day to finish up our week! Thanks to Cara at The First Grade Parade for sharing her idea on how to make ice cream and for inspiring us to make it! We also used her fact an opinion page for a skill using ice cream. The kids were sooooo excited!! We also did some problem solving with double scoops of ice cream and triple scoops. While we were making our ice cream they played a game working with suffix endings and ice cream scoops.
