More party fun…playing “Minute to Win It” by sucking up M&M’s with a straw and moving them to another cup. It was a quiet minute in the room!

Playing a racing game called “Broken Heart”. They had to pass a tissue paper heart back and forth using a clothes pin without breaking the heart. Another quiet minute as they concentrated so hard!

A favorite game and not so quiet game….”Heart Lava”! They had to use two large hearts to move across the room without falling in the “lava”. A very fun racing game!

Happy 100th Day of School!

100 days smarter

We had a fun day on January 31 celebrating our 100th day of school…finally after 2 snow days!  We spent the whole day integrating the number 100 into our lessons. We started the day off coloring 100 items by a code and then adding up the items to see if it =100.

Every day during calendar we have been reading the book Emily’s First 100 Days of School by Rosemary Wells. On Emily’s 100th day she told us how she can now read and write 100 words. She also told about what she has learned the last 100 days, so we brainstormed as a class all that we have learned in our first 100 days of school. The kids then wrote their own stories. We worked hard on creating a good title, introduction to the story, and writing a beginning, middle, and end. They were very hard workers and loved sharing their stories. They are 100 days smarter!!!

After all the hard work with our story writing we read the story The Wolf’s Chicken Stew. It was about a wolf that wants to fatten up a chicken so he feeds her 100 donuts, a 100 pound cake, and 100 pancakes. He decides she is ready to eat and goes to her house to get her and when she opens up the door she has 100 chicks that give the wolf 100 kisses for all the treats. The wolf then goes home and makes 100 cookies for the chicks and decides to not eat the chicken. We wrote a list of things that we could eat 100 of and then we made a class “stew” of 100 items. They loved the treat! Thanks to all the parents that sent items for our yummy “100 day stew”!   Another fun book we read was Fluffy’s 100th Day of School. It was a book about a guinea pig that has contests with other guinea pigs. We had a few contests with our friends. They played “Race to 100” on a 100’s board by rolling a die and seeing who could reach 100 first. We also rolled a die 100 times and created a grid to see how many times we rolled a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. They also created 100 Day Mystery pictures by coloring certain numbers on a 100 grid. Of course I was busy taking pictures of their 100 day stories and getting them put together and hung up and making the stew and I didn’t get pictures of the contests or the stew!

We finished up the day with the book I’ll Teach My Dog 100 Words. We then created our own books with 100 words that we can read and write. We did it in sets of ten. We wrote 10 color words, 10 number words, 10 action words, 10 more action words, 10 things we can wear, 10 names for people, 10 foods, 10 animals, 10 word wall words, and 10 friend’s names.
