Turkey Time!

We spent two days learning about turkeys.  We read some non-fictional books about turkeys and some very cute fictional stories about turkeys just wanting to be “invited” to Thanksgiving dinner instead of “being” the Thanksgiving dinner!  We made a book called “Tell Me About Turkeys” with facts about turkeys.  For math we did turkey feather math facts where we had to read story problems using our number words and color words and  didTurkey Fact Families.  We made a Turkey Sentence Wheel and wrote Super Turkey Sentences.  They loved making these silly sentences and reading them to me.  Enjoy your Turkey Day!!

Pilgrim Friends and Turkeys

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without turkeys!  We made some cute symmetrical turkeys using pattern blocks.  They came up with some great designs!  Next week will learn more facts about real turkeys.  We have enjoyed learning about The First Thanksgiving and made some neat Mayflower ships (I was sick so I did not get pictures) and these cute Pilgrims.  We also compared and contrasted past and present Thanksgiving traditions.  I also know they are very thankful for their toys, pets, teachers, school, and FAMILIES!  I know I am very thankful for this class and all the support that you give.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Welcome to Our Tribe!

Welcome to Our Tribe! 020

This week we introduced Native American Culture.  The kids did not know that Native Americans were also Indians!  We learned that Native Americans lived in “tribes”.  We made our classroom “tribe”.  We learned about 4 different Native American tribes and the different homes and areas of the United States they lived in.  Here is our tribe:Welcome to Our Tribe! 019

Scarecrow Week

We made friendly, shy, happy, silly, funny, grumpy, and sad scarecrows this week!  They enjoyed the sentence wheel we did to make Super Scarecrow Sentences.  These sentences used an adjective to describe their scarecrow and put a place the scarecrow was at and what they did.  They loved sharing their sentences and pictures showing who, where, and what!  Here are a few pictures of our scarecrows this week.
